It works by killing bacteria and parasites that cause infections in many different parts of the body. The generic form of Flagyl is Flagyl 5mg. Flagyl is available as a generic drug called Flagyl ER . This medication belongs to a class of antibiotics known as cantharidin.

What is Flagyl commonly prescribed for?

Do not give Flagyl ER if you are allergic to metronidazole or to any of the other ingredients in Flagyl ER. Do not take Flagyl if you are taking rifabutin, a rifamycin-based antibiotic, or a mixture of rifamycin and fluconazole (such as Flagyl). Ask your doctor before taking any other medicines while taking Flagyl, including those that you get from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had: a stomach ulcer, or heartburn; glaucoma; a blood clot, hemolytic anemia, or sickle cell disease; kidney disease; or if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. Find out how to apply for these. Serious liver damage could occur in patients who use Flagyl for a long time or who have a history of liver disease. If you have a history of liver problems, discuss this with your doctor before taking Flagyl. INDICATIONS AND USAGE Flagyl is used for treatment of adult and pediatric patients with a certain type of leukemia, called androgen-dependent, or androgen-independent androgen-cushing disorders. Less frequently, blue-colored or whitish spots may appear. Similarly, you may have a fever, swelling of the face, mouth, and/or tongue, and mouth ulcers. Skin rashes are typically a symptom of other conditions, such as osteomyelitis or meningitis, that may cause similar rash symptoms. These rashes can be fatal if untreated.

Pruritus may occur hours to days after taking the medicine and is a red skin rash with blisters on the trunk and face that can spread to almost the entire body. Most commonly it is found on the arms, legs, and abdomen but it can also appear in the knees, ankles, and ankles. the longer the infection is active (usually more than a week), the greater the risk for complications, and the greater the duration of any side effects. Call your doctor right away if you have any signs of this rash. Flagyl may affect the way some medicines work, and other medicines may affect how Flagyl works. Flagyl can also be used to treat or prevent infections from other causes. Anticoagulants: Tell your doctor right away if you take any of the following medicines: painkillers (dalteparin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or others); muscle relaxers (racanastine, cesametin, or others); antidepressants (monoamine oxidase inhibitors, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants); blood pressure medications (high blood pressure medications, beta-blockers); or drugs used to treat tuberculosis. Make sure you do not drink alcohol while taking Flagyl, or for 30 days after finishing your course of treatment, if you do not have to eat or drink before going to bed. Drinking alcohol while taking metronidazole can cause you to feel very sick (nausea) and can cause your liver to malfunction.

If you become pregnant while taking Flagyl, tell your baby's doctor right away. Flagyl should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the potential problems.

Flagyl should not be used during breastfeeding. This is because milk is used by the baby to feed the baby.

If you experience these visual effects, it’s best to avoid driving or using machinery or using them for at least three days until you notice the effects of the medications. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.
